Honoring Mr. Paul Rock

April 9, 2021

It is with a heavy heart that Ascend extends its deepest condolences to the family of one of its dedicated teachers.

Bushwick Ascend Middle School teacher Paul Rock Lherisson, fondly known as “Mr. Rock” by his students, died last week from complications of Covid-19. Mr. Rock taught 7th grade social studies for the past school year at Bushwick Ascend Middle School. His principal Miatta Massaley reflects on his impact on the school:

“Mr. Rock worked tirelessly to ensure that our scholars received the encouragement and support they needed during this time of virtual instruction. His many contributions will have a lasting impact on our school community for years to come.”

On Friday, April 9th, the Bushwick Ascend Middle School will host a virtual community memorial for students, parents, and staff to celebrate Mr. Rock’s life. The school will also provide students and staff with access to counselors to help cope with his passing.

Mr. Rock’s family has established a GoFundMe page HERE to help cover the cost of his funeral expenses and memorial.

We know our Ascend community will be of support to Mr. Rock’s family and one another in this difficult time.
