Shani Foster joined Ascend in 2014 as a teacher at Bushwick Ascend Lower School, where she taught music. Foster went on to become a dean of students, responsible for overseeing Ascend’s distinctive warm and nurturing culture at the school, and most recently a resident director at the school. She is thrilled for the chance to bring her experience and commitment to Ascend’s mission to her new role as school director at Central Brooklyn Ascend Lower School in school year 2019-20. Foster began her career in education as a voice and music teacher at various schools in Newark and New York City. Foster holds a bachelor’s degree in music from Spelman College and a master’s in vocal pedagogy and performance from Westminster Choir College of Rider University.
