Ascend has not only outperformed local community school districts in ELA and Math but has also excelled across New York City and New York State!
We are proud of the tight-knit, responsive community of teachers, families, and students we have developed.
We strive to embody our values of diversity, equity, inclusion and anti-racism in staffing, curriculum and policies/practices.
Canarsie Ascend Middle School operates safe, clean, bright facilities that show respect for our junior high students and teachers.
From the Principal's Desk:
“We're here to make sure all kids have access. A child’s chances at success should not depend on their zip code or neighborhood, but on the opportunities, support, and skill sets they are given. My job is to create the conditions for everyone to be successful — not just students, but teachers and school leaders as well. We need educators who are deeply committed to ensuring every student has access to the best education possible. One of the most rewarding parts of being a principal is seeing all of that come together in service of our scholars and community.
I want CAMS to be a true pillar of the Canarsie community — not just one option for families, but the obvious choice. Our team genuinely loves and supports our students while holding them to high expectations with consistency and care. Because of that, our scholars show up for themselves and for the people investing in them every day. At Ascend, we believe in boundless opportunity. My hope is that our students grow up knowing nothing is out of their reach and that they have the freedom and preparation to make choices about their own futures, rather than having those choices made for them.”
