Status Quo, Interrupted: Disrupting the school-to-prison pipeline

Betsy Goldfarb

February 26, 2019

In the fall, Ascend hosted “Status Quo, Interrupted,” a candid discussion about Ascend’s shift to a Responsive Classroom model and away from the zero-tolerance school policies that contribute to the school-to-prison pipeline for black and Latino young people.

In this webinar, Ascend Founder and CEO Steven F. Wilson and Managing Director of Schools Marsha Gadsden discuss how Ascend courageously eschewed a “No Excuses” culture and instead embraced a cultural model that focuses on joy and engagement, empowers students, and drives deep intellectual engagement.

Watch the full discussion below. I would love to hear your comments and questions: email me at betsy.goldfarb@ascendlearning.org.
