We are proud to celebrate an incredible achievement from one of our own.
Last year, BJ Cartwright, a third grader at Canarsie Ascend Lower School, made headlines after earning the title of the “Fastest Kid in the World” at the Millrose Games. You can read more about that achievement in the Canarsie Courier here
Earlier this year, BJ continued to build on that success at the USATF Youth Indoor Championships at Ocean Breeze, where he captured three national titles in the 55m, 200m, and long jump. Competing against athletes from across the country, BJ stood out as one of the meet’s most dominant performers.
This year, he experienced a different kind of milestone. BJ recently had the opportunity to meet Usain Bolt, one of the greatest sprinters of all time. For a young athlete who has already achieved so much, meeting a global icon of the sport was a powerful and inspiring moment.
Since beginning his running journey, BJ has earned dozens of medals and built the confidence, focus, and discipline that come with competing at a high level. His story is not just about one race or one title. It is about continued growth and belief in what comes next.

At Ascend, we are proud to celebrate students like BJ, who pursue excellence in and out of the classroom. His journey is a reflection of what is possible when talent, effort, and opportunity come together.
We are excited to see what BJ accomplishes next.
